Significant changes to NHSN definition of CDI incidents
No longer defined by last test of record
The National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) has previously defined a Clostridiodes difficile Infection (CDI) event based solely on the results of the last test of record.
A proposed change in this definition will shift from defining CDI by the last test of record to include any positive test for C. difficile and treatment within 2 days of testing. This change supports laboratories in selecting a testing algorithm that works best for their patient population and workflow, while helping to identify true CDI occurrences.
